She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Amsterdam, Holland, on September 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Katherine Haywood and Arie Bos. Mary and her brother, Roland, grew up in both Amsterdam and in New York City.
Mary studied at the Swoboda-Yurieva School of Ballet and became a professional dancer in 1947. During her 10-year career, she toured with the renowned Ballet Russe dance company and performed on Broadway in such hit shows as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Arabian Nights.
When TV became the rage, Mary danced on variety shows and spectaculars. One special evening, the man who would become the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Schneider, was watching Mary dance on the Arthur Murray Party TV show. Miraculously, Bob was able to contact Mary, and they married on May 11, 1958.
When she retired from the dancing world, Mary and Bob moved to Pittsfield, MA, where they raised their two daughters.
Mary was a longtime member of PEO. She worked in retail and also volunteered in the public schools and at Shaker Village. Mary and Bob later moved to Hendersonville, NC, and finally to Marietta, GA, to be near family.
Throughout her life, Mary believed in the importance of preserving the memory of her childhood friend, Anne Frank. Mary educated youngsters and was active with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and Anne Frank Museums in Georgia and in Holland.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Schneider.
She leaves behind daughter, Kathy M. Schneider and her partner; her daughter Karen S. Huban and her husband, Timothy C. Huban; and her two grandchildren, Kelly R. Huban and Eric R. Huban.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to MUST Ministries or to Good Mews in Marietta, GA.
