Mary “Juna” Golden Crane, age 81, passed away on December 9, 2018. She was born in Harlan, KY in 1937 to Leslie and Gladys Golden, where she grew up with her little brother, James “Butch” Golden. She graduated from Union College in Barbourville, KY, where she met and then married the love of her life, Jim Crane. They were married for 59 years, and raised two daughters, Melanie Crane Davis (dec.) and Melissa “Missy” Crane Worden. She welcomed her sons-in-law, Doug Davis, and David Worden, with loving arms into the family.
She received her Master’s degree in Education from University of Louisville and taught elementary school children for over 20 years and in many schools, as Jim’s career moved them to several different cities along the way. She retired from Gwinnett County schools in 2004, but had loved each and every one of her school children and had given her heart and soul to teaching.
Juna and Jim enjoyed many activities together, including playing bridge and pinochle with friends, square dancing, traveling, and throwing their famous Kentucky Derby parties. After retiring, she was able to enjoy more traveling with Jim and her brother Butch and his wife, Pat. She also returned to her passion of painting, which she continued to do until she could no longer. She enjoyed her art classes at The Art Place in Marietta.
“Nana” adored her grandsons, Penn and Shep Worden, and doted on them at every chance, attending many recitals, sports events, birthday parties, and concerts.
She will be dearly missed by her family, her former school co-workers, her neighbors, and church friends.
The family will receive guests between the hours of 12:00 -1:00 pm Thursday, December 13th, 2018 at Kennesaw United Methodist Church, and a celebration of life will be held there afterwards, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation in Juna’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
