Mrs. Martha (Martie) Harris passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2014 while sleeping comfortably in her home in Palm Beach, FL. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Deacon Al Gallagher (from Holy Family Catholic church) officiating. Entombment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her parents Ferris and Shmoonie Francis, former husbands Emanuel Raneri and John William Harris, sister Jennie Nowak and brothers Cy Francis and Frank Francis. She is survived by her daughter Marla Farran (from Marietta, GA), niece Maria Duke (from Salesville, OH) and nephews Fred Francis (from Bardstown, KY), Dick Francis (from Ocala, FL), David Francis (from Columbus, OH) and Frank Francis (from Kimbolton, OH).
Mrs. Harris was born in New York Mills, NY but spent her formative years in Byesville, OH. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and moved shortly thereafter to the big city of Cleveland, OH. In Cleveland, she was very active with the U.S.O during WWII. It was also in Cleveland where she met and married her husbands and gave birth to her only child. After leaving Cleveland, she spent 10 years moving from city to city throughout the US until finally settling in Atlanta, GA. In Atlanta, she was an executive secretary for the Burdick Corporation until she retired in Palm Beach, FL. She was a devoted wife and Mother and also a beautiful woman with a warm heart and a fun loving spirit who lived life to the fullest.
