Lila was born January 15th, 1927 in Flora, MS as the first child to Merton and Jimmie Williams. Merton was a factory worker and Jimmie was a homemaker for Lila and her four younger siblings. Lila graduated from Flora High School in 1945 and continued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi. While she was attending Southern Mississippi, she met and married Andrew J. Stennett, Jr. She later obtained a Masters in Early Childhood Development from the University of Georgia and was a kindergarten teacher in the Cobb County School System in Marietta, GA until she retired.
Lila was a member of First Baptist Church of Marietta since 1965. The church was a big part of Lila’s life. After retirement, she taught at the ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) program at the church and many of the students would refer to her as Mom. Lila’s interests included family, painting and drawing, gardening, reading, and nature in general. Her art hangs in her home and is treasured by her children. She could spend hours tending and watering her plants, feeding the birds, and watching the squirrels play in the back yard. She was a ferocious reader of many different genres.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Andy and Laura Stennett, Kevin and Rhonda Stennett, David Stennett and Cindy O’Neill, and Lila and Daniel Llamas, as well as 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
