John Edward Gary, age 72, of Marietta, GA, went home to be with his Savior on Sunday, December 5, 2021, following a short illness. John was a faithful man who loved God, his family, church, and community. He had a passion for missions and strived to share his love of Christ with others.
He loved spending time with his friends at breakfast, and used his wealth of knowledge of scripture to lead multiple Bible studies. He earned his bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech in 1971 where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and his MBA from Georgia State University in 1973. John married Molly Johnston on December 31, 1971 in Atlanta, GA. He was retired at the time of his death, but worked 24 years with Hewlett-Packard.
John was born on June 5, 1949, to John and Dorothy Gary, Morris, GA. He is survived by his wife Molly, son Shane (Adrienne) Gary of Marietta, daughter Emily (Dave) Miller of Scituate, MA, and sister Sara (Nick) Bledsoe of Jefferson, GA and Peggy Yasenchack loving partner of his pre-deceased son Christopher Gary. John is also pre-deceased by his parents John and Dorothy Gary, and granddaughter Taylor Nicole Gary. He was the very proud grandfather to Skyler Yasenchack of Birmingham, AL; Jasper Yasenchack of Marietta, GA; Jackson, Brooke and David Gary of Marietta, GA; and Karsen and Peyton Miller of Scituate, MA. He leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Anyone who knew John was touched by his faith, kindness, humor, love of family and friends, and mild temperament. In adversity, he prioritized faith and love, a lesson taught to him by his own parents and one that will live on through his kids, grandkids, and all who knew him. Years ago, he asked for the song “They’ll Know We are Christians by Our Love” to be sung at his funeral.
A celebration of life, officiated by Brian Fox, will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church Chapel, 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068, on Thursday, December 9 at 11:00 am.
Visitation with family members will begin in the narthex of the Main Sanctuary at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Johnson Ferry Global Missions at this same address.
