Johnny is survived by his wife, Jennifer Funderburk Diskin; son, Gabriel Funderburk-Diskin; stepdaughter, Sherri Pennington Smith; mother, Elisabeth Uhl Diskin; brother, Terry Lou Diskin and wife, Heather Evans Diskin; and sister, Margaret “Margie” Diskin Garcia and husband, Gregory Leon Garcia. He is predeceased by his father, John Phillip Diskin.
He was born in Nuremberg, Germany. Johnny was an Army brat moving around a lot during his youth until settling in Columbus, Georgia, and graduating from Kendrick High School.
He enjoyed candy (an understatement), going to yard sales, watching the Falcons, Bulldogs and Braves, eating out, playing horseshoes, singing, dancing and watching his son compete in sports.
John was someone you couldn’t help but love! He was a gentle giant with a wonderful spirit and one of the most infectious smiles anyone has ever known. He was personality plus, never met a stranger and was the type of person who inspired lifelong friendships. Johnny will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 6 until 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
Because of COVID 19 Funeral Services will be by invitation. Services will be Livestreamed on the Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home Facebook Page.
