Joan Marcia (Glass) Martin, 81, entered peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on 19 December 2024, in Acworth, Georgia. Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, Joan was the cherished daughter of Carl Kinley Glass and Laura Ann Power Glass. Joan is a 1965 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BS in Special Education. Joan married the love of her life, Jack McConnell Martin, on April 18, 1964. Together, they embraced the adventures of Jack’s military career and enjoyed the experiences, opportunities and friendships afforded through various military assignments across the country including Fort Campbell, Washington D.C., West Point, and Hawaii. Together Joan and Jack raised their three boys (David, Andrew, Daniel). Joan was a wonderful and loving mother. Life took on new meaning for Joan when she became a born-again Christian in March of 1965. Through all of life’s difficulties, Joan’s faith in Jesus Christ sustained her and, in her words, “the Lord has shown Himself to be faithful, kind and trustworthy.” After Jack’s passing in 1998, Joan’s unwavering faith in Jesus Christ was her source of strength and joy. She was an active member of Faith Community Church in Woodstock, Georgia, and lived by her favorite verses, Philippians 3:10 and Psalms 9:1. Joan was known for her radiant smile, gift for connection, and passion for sharing her faith. She loved writing, gardening, and birdwatching, with red cardinals holding a special place in her heart. Joan’s friendships from military assignments, church affiliations, neighbors and countless others who loved her dearly will miss her. Joan is survived by her three sons, David (Frieda), Andrew (Evangelina), and Daniel (Joy), along with eight grandchildren (Sarah, David Jr., Anna, Nicholas, Matthew, Caleb, Joshua and Madison) and two great-grandchildren (Judah and Bregan). A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 11:00 am at Carmichael Funeral Home (1130 Whitlock Ave NW, Marietta, GA 30064). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s honor to Gideons International at www.gideons.org. Joan’s faith-filled legacy will continue to inspire her sons and their families, her church family and all who had the opportunity to know her. Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta is in charge of the arrangements. www.carmichaelcares.com, 770-424-4924.
