Janeice Jackson Long, “Dede,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on April 15, 2024. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Janeice was born on July 18, 1940, in Bartow County, Georgia, and later moved to Marietta, Georgia, where she spent her formative years. She attended Sprayberry High School with her future husband, Paul Long, graduating one year after him in 1958. Janeice and Paul were married in 1960 on Palm Sunday. She studied to become a Radiological Assistant at Kennestone Hospital. She worked at many medical offices over her career in the Atlanta area and Charlotte, North Carolina. She transitioned to become a Medical Transcriptionist later in her career. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, kindness, dedication, and passion for helping others.
Janeice filled her personal life with those same values and kept family and friends close to her heart. She was curious and intrigued by the people and the world around her, so much so that Janeice never met a stranger or left a question unasked. Always willing to discuss the latest Hallmark movie or chat about her last beach trip, Janeice naturally turned small talk into personal connections. In her free time, Janeice enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading, and gardening. Janeice inherited the family green thumb and could grow almost anything from a seed pod, pinching, or cutting. In the winter, her home was filled with her heirloom plants to keep them warm and safe until the weather was welcoming enough for them to be outside again.
Janeice is preceded in death by her husband Paul Long, her mother, Donnie Jackson, her brother, Joel Jackson, and her father, Dewey Jackson.
Janeice is survived by her son, Allan Long; her daughter and son-in-law, Alisa and Brian Golson; her three granddaughters, Katherine Golson, Sloan Golson, and Eve Golson; her sisters and brother-in-law, Joyce and Melvyn Denard and JoLynne Jackson and a large, beloved extended family.
A funeral service will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta on Friday, April 19, at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Memorials in Janeice’s name can be made to the charity or organization of your choice.
A burial for Janeice will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at Kennesaw Memorial Park, 1306 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, GA 30064.
