Jim graduated from Warwick High School. He went to Andrew Junior College on a baseball scholarship and later studied at California University of Pennsylvania. He began a long career with BellSouth and AT&T by selling yellow pages in Orlando, Florida. He went on to achieve managerial and
district-level positions in Miami and Key West, Florida before coming to Atlanta in 1982. He retired as Vice President of Quality for BellSouth Mobility.
Jim is survived by his wife of 28 years, Martha (Groce) Hughes-Davis, his son Cabot Todd Davis of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughters and sons-in-law Liza (Hughes) and Hugh Mooney of Marietta, Georgia and Anna (Hughes) and Joseph Nicoletto of Mill Valley, California. He is also survived by sisters Phyllis Rivenbark of Roswell, Georgia, Kay Bridges of Cumming, Georgia, and Ruth Wilson of Hope, Arkansas, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jim was the beloved "Papa" to six grandchildren; Patton, Charles, and Townsend Mooney, and Junie, Phoenix, and Judah Nicoletto.
As an avid fisherman, Jim particularly loved the Florida Keys. He loved golf and played many years with the Senior Golf Association at Indian Hills Country Club. While president of the Hialeah-Miami Springs Chamber of Commerce, Jim served as Chairman of the Doral Eastern Open Golf Tournament. He was also an accomplished photographer.
For many years, Jim was a dedicated member of St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia. He served as a Stephen's Minister, and was also involved in Lay Eucharist and Healing Prayer Ministries.
Jim's family would like to offer sincerest thanks and gratitude to the dedicated staff members of Manor on the Square in Roswell, Georgia, Helping Hearts Hospice, Golden Rose Personal Care Home, and Dr. Rolf Meinhold.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia.
