Gregory Warren Corgan

Gregory Warren Corgan, 60, of Atlanta, GA passed away on March 9, 2014 after a three and a half year battle with mantle cell lymphoma; a heroic battle fought with unprecedented grace, unfailing determination, and unwavering bravery. Greg was born on July 29, 1953, in Memphis, TN. He is the oldest of six children born to Warren and Betty Corgan. After spending his youth in California, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Kansas and New Jersey, he graduated from St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque, NM and later from the University of Notre Dame in 1975, with a degree in Finance. While at Notre Dame, Greg was actively involved in the student newspaper, The Observer, serving as sports editor and authoring his own weekly column, The Irish Eye. He was also a sportscaster for the university-owned radio station.

Following graduation, Greg spent 24 years at IBM, where he led units providing management solutions to multiple industries worldwide. After leaving IBM in 2000, he went on to hold numerous board positions, served as President & CEO of OneChem Ltd. and held senior executive positions running worldwide sales organizations for CATechnologies, Infor, and OpenText software. He was a gifted leader, who guided with encouragement, patience and wisdom – he led by lifting others up. Greg was the rare and consummate gentleman, a loving husband and father, gifted athlete, passionate sports fan, avid golfer and burgeoning guitar enthusiast. In his spare time, he could often be found perfecting his golf swing, contemplating his fantasy football picks, or taking in Fighting Irish football games. Greg’s engaging personality, unassuming charm, unwavering patience, sense of humor and eternal optimism gained him many friends and endeared him to family, friends and colleagues .

Greg leaves behind his wife Kathryn and three children, Kevin, 30 of San Francisco, Christopher, 27 and Kelley, 21, both of Tampa. Greg is also survived by his parents, Warren and Betty Corgan of Greensboro, NC, and his siblings Brian Corgan (Mary Beth) of Marietta, Karen (David) Parks of Greensboro,NC, Mary Beth (John) Morris of Providence, RI, Terry (Laura) Corgan and Nancy (John) VanSant of Charlotte,NC, in addition to seventeen nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and enjoyed spending time with him. They, along with his many friends and colleagues will miss him greatly.

Greg and his family express their warmest thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Atlanta’s Winship Cancer Center and Emory University Hospital, each of whom cared for him so lovingly during his long, hard fight. In particular, they would like to thank Dr. H. Jean Khoury, who worked tirelessly on Greg’s behalf and in whom Greg had complete confidence and trust.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 13th from 6 – 8 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30068. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 14th at 11 AM at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30062. Arrangements under the direction of H.M.
