Grace Davine Olert Dailey (age 85), of Marietta, passed away on Thursday, August 23rd. She was born March 9, 1933 in Paducah, KY to Dr. Frederick H. and Sarah Klooster Olert. Grace started her music career in Cincinnati, OH with Olga Prigge as her teacher. When the family moved to Detroit, MI, she attended the Detroit Conservatory of Music and Grosse Point High School where she was editor of the literary magazine and accompanied the school’s Glee Club. In her “spare” time she played for a ballet school and many church functions. In 1951, the Olert’s moved to Richmond, VA and Grace continued further south to attend Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. After graduating in 1955, she taught at Druid Hills High School and worked at the Emory Branch of Citizens and Southern Bank (now BOA). Upon relocating to Cobb County in 1957 she taught for a short time at Powers Ferry Elementary School. For the next 50 years she taught private piano and organ lessons and was a church organist primarily at John Knox Presbyterian Church and Powers Ferry United Methodist Church both in Marietta. She was a member of the Marietta Music Club, Town and Country Junior Women’s Club, Agnes Scott Alumni Club, Chorister’s Guild and American Guild of Organists. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and traveling.
Survivors include her children: Susan Harris of Sioux City, IA, Dan (MaryBeth) Dailey of Oakwood, GA, Mary Katherine (Craig) Block of Canton, Ga, John ( Ann Marie) Dailey of Ft. Meyers, FL. Grandchildren are Leah (Brandon) Yarbrough, Christopher Dailey, Austin Dailey, Andrew Dailey, Jack Dailey, Alexis Block and Isaiah Block. She is survived by her sister Susan Dowell of Pensacola, FL and brother in law Joe Boyd of Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Sarah Zimmer and Mary Boyd and brother Fred Olert.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 25th at 11 a.m. at Eastminister Presbyterian Church with Rev. Aaron C. Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to “Music Ministry” at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3125 Sewell Mill Rd. Marietta, GA 30062.
