He was born on July 30, 1957 in Sharon, PA to John Reed Jr. and Sara Reed. He was a 1975 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA. After high school, Gary moved to Buffalo, NY where he attended Bryant and Stratton College and earned a degree in Data Processing. Shortly thereafter he began a long and successful career in the IT profession at Electronic Data Systems and later as an independent IT consultant. During that time Gary lived in Buffalo, NY, Binghamton, NY, Lansing, MI, and Plano, TX before relocating to Powder Springs, GA in 2001. He was highly sought after as an IT professional while working for numerous high-profile clients that took him to locations all over the US and the world. His love for travel extended into his personal life where he took several trips to various countries around the world, including Mexico, Dominican Republic, Spain, England, France, and Kenya. In the past few years, Gary developed a passion for real estate which led to him becoming a licensed Real Estate Agent. His biggest love outside of his family and work was taking to the open road on his Harley. He joined the Knight Strikers Motorcycle Club Atlanta Chapter in 2001 and served on the board in many capacities including Treasurer and President. He rode thousands of miles all over the country with his biker family.
Gary gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was baptized along with his five siblings in 1970, the Sunday after Easter.
He is survived by his wife Yolanda Howell Reed; three daughters Dallas Reed (Stephen Hall) of Boston, MA, Tacara Howe (Tim) of McKinney, TX, and Jordan Reed of the home; mother Sara Reed; two brothers John Reed III (Denise) and James Reed (Leilani); two sisters Belinda Reed Shannon (Keith) and Robyn May (Donald); six grandchildren Myles Bradford, Christopher Howe, Camille Howe, Chloe Howe, Colette Howe, and Carmelle Howe; sister-in-law Delilah Payne, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Gary was preceded in death by his sister Deborah LaVerne Hosch, his son Taylor John Reed, his father John Reed Jr., and his brother Glenn Reed.
Gary was the greatest son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and mentor. To many, he was affectionately known as “G Money.” He was unselfish and intentional in being a blessing and a help to everyone he met. He always had a smile and some kind of wisecrack. That was his style, and he certainly wore it well. He never met someone that didn’t become a friend immediately. He was always the life of the party. He will be dearly missed.
