Elgin Dillard Staton, 87, passed away quietly at his home in Villa Rica, Ga on Saturday, September 14, 2024, after an extended illness. He was born on May 16, 1937, in Cobb County, Ga. He was a beloved husband for 65 (September 16, 1959) years to Shirley Ernestine Carter Staton, and a wonderful father to Keith Staton (Jennifer Sullins Staton), of Temple, Ga. and Donna Staton of Villa Rica, Ga. Elgin was Paw Paw Staton to his grandchildren, Matthew Staton (Julie Covington Staton), and Savannah Staton Smith (William Matthew Smith), all of Temple, Ga. He also leaves behind his much-loved great grandchildren, Macy and Carter Staton, and Reed and Della White.
Elgin also leaves brothers, Lonnie Staton, David Staton (Beverly Staton), and Gary Staton (Janet Staton), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dillard and Irene Staton, two sisters, Adelle Staton and Judy Staton Price (Ray Price), one Sister In Law, June Staton, and one Brother, Larry Staton (Gloria Staton).
Elgin worked as an Electrician at Marietta Electric Company for most of his life and always enjoyed his job. He liked watching NASCAR and Braves Baseball, but most of all, he loved being a Christian and he loved Southern Gospel Singing. He played the guitar and the bass. He sang at his church for many years. He belonged to Sandhills Church of God in Carrollton for many years and, most recently, Victory Tabernacle Holiness Church in Villa Rica, Ga.
He was much loved and will be missed by many.
His funeral will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery Winkenhofer Chapel, 2000 Cobb Pkwy SE, Marietta, Ga. Entombment will follow the service in the cemetery at the Cross Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
