Douglas Lee Walker, age 70, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Doug was born May 28, 1950 in Rome, Georgia. He graduated from Wheeler High School in Marietta in 1968 and from North Georgia College in 1972. Doug retired after 42 years from Ferguson Enterprises Inc. He most recently was a driver for Capital Courier Services.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Lee Walker. He is survived by his wife, Karen Scott Walker; daughters, Vicky (Eric) Bache and Cindy (Jimmy) Kelley; mother, Kathryn Walker; sister, Lesley (Al) Loveless; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bache, Courtney Kelley, Taylor Bache, Ryan Kelley, and Andrew Kelley; and several nieces and nephews.
After a noble fight with COVID-19, Doug crossed the finish line and entered Heaven on February 20, 2021. He was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta for over 50 years, where he served as a youth volunteer, deacon, bus driver, and sound technician. Those closest to him would describe Doug as a gentle servant with a quiet faith. Though he was content to stay in the background, he was a strong, godly man, who was always willing to help his friends, family, and those in need. An excellent example of God's love, Doug dedicated himself to others through his steadfast faith, supportive nature, and willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. His true north was always Jesus, and his family and friends counted on his steady nature even in the most tumultuous of times. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of faith lives on in the generations to follow him.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Eastside Baptist Church (2450 Lower Roswell Road Marietta, GA 30068) at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service in Guest Services. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. The service will be live streamed from a link found on the church website (followeastside.com). Interment will follow the service at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Eastside's youth ministry.
