Coralie “Dawn” Houston was born January 5th, 1962, in Columbus, Mississippi. She spent her childhood in Canton, Georgia, her mother’s hometown, and was raised alongside her four younger siblings, Darlene, Darryl, Dwayne, and Lynn. Dawn took on the role of a second mother and cared for them deeply. She also enjoyed spending time with her father and half siblings in Spokane, Washington. A natural athlete, she was an avid softball player and home run leader, and served as a manager and mat maid while at Cherokee High School, where she graduated in 1980.
She began working as a child pouring sweet tea at the Pinecrest Motor Lodge alongside her mother. She continued working various jobs throughout her life including delivering a limousine to San Antonio for Crain S&S Sales. On that trip, she met her beloved husband, Chuck Houston, and they were married on May 21st, 1988. Together they went on to have four children, two boys and two girls, whom she loved dearly. She never missed a game, match, or recital, and you could always hear her cheering in the stands. If something had to get done, she was the one to call. Whether it was volunteering at school, being cookie mom for Girl Scouts, working the concession stand, passing out uniforms, or just a ride home.
Dawn dedicated her life to raising her children and took great pride in them. She embodied the word “selfless”, and loved all creatures, down to the smallest ones. No one was a stranger to her, and she frequently went out of her way to help anyone in need. Her door was always open, and she welcomed her children’s friends into her home with a hot meal and endless love. To them she was known lovingly as “Mama Dawn.” She was fiercely protective of those she loved, had a tender heart for all, and was willing to do the hard jobs in life. Dawn loved her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, with her whole heart. She enjoyed attending Bible study and helping in children’s ministry. She was a true reflection of His love for us. Dawn will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved her, but we are comforted knowing she is at home with The Lord.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Chuck Houston. Her children: Charles Houston, Erik Houston, Miranda Foster, and Valerie Houston. Her seven granddaughters: Stella Houston, Isla Houston, Waverly Foster, Rosalee Houston, Blythe Foster, Emma Houston, and Lachlyn Foster.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Marietta Funeral Home.
