Catherine Ruth Buck, daughter of William (Bill) McGill Burns (dec.) and Katherine (Kay) Burns (dec.), died Jan. 6, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was 94 years old. Ruth was the wife of Robert (Bob) Jepherson Buck (dec.). High school sweethearts, they both graduated from Garden City High School, NY. They were married in July 1945.
Ruth attended College of New Rochelle before leaving to aid in the war effort by going to work as a draftsman at the Sperry plant on
Long Island. She also became qualified to fly planes around the country to wherever they might have been needed.
Active in local affairs she was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, active in local Republican affairs and played tennis. She was crowned Mrs. Long Island Homemaker of 1959. Ruth had her own business which specialized in commercial interior design. Some of her work included the Nassau Coliseum and two floors in the World Trade Center.
In 1975 Ruth and Bob moved to Marietta, Ga, where they remained until their respective deaths. They both continued supporting Republican Party efforts at the local level. They belonged to the Indian Hills Country Club where Ruth was an ALTA member and played golf. She shot a whole-in-one at the age of 79.
Ruth continued her business interests by engaging in various real estate endeavors.
In addition to her business activities Ruth spent many, many hours researching her family history on her mother's side. She also enjoyed acrylic and watercolor painting.
Ruth is survived by a brother, William Burns, of Williamsburg, VA, a son, Andrew J. Buck of Ambler, PA, and a daughter, Catherine B. Leary of Green Valley, AZ, three grandsons, Ian B. Leary of Mill Valley, CA, Jonathan J. Buck of San Diego, CA, Christopher C. Buck of Stow, MA, and two granddaughters, Diana C. Buck of San Francisco, CA, and Brittany Buck Haught of Duluth, GA. There are four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 6 to 8PM. A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Marietta, Georgia on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 1PM.
