This is a story of Carolyn Faith (née Huffman) Rousculp. Carolyn was an amazing woman that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. Our “Granny”, as she liked to be called by her grands, was a wonderful wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend and could solve crossword puzzles like no one else.
Carolyn’s story starts on August 11, 1943 – the oldest of the twins (sister Marilyn) – born to Rev. Samuel V. and Mrs. Nellie Ruth Huffman. Carolyn was born in Magnolia, OH and would move throughout southeastern Ohio wherever her parents were called to serve. She cherished the life with her parents and 5 siblings (Naomi, Mary Jo, Sam, Esther and Marilyn).
Carolyn started her career as an X-Ray tech and that is where she met the love of her life, David. A romance that started with her father presiding over the wedding and lasting for over 52 years. Carolyn has two kids Matt (wife Janie) who resides in Cary, NC and Rachel who resides in Woodstock, GA. Never one to sit still, Carolyn and Dave moved often during their time together between Ohio, NC, NJ, and finally to her home for the past 30+ years, Marietta, GA.
Aside from her husband and crossword puzzles, Carolyn’s other passions included working with the patients during her tenure in the Mammography Unit at Kennestone’s Women’s Center. Carolyn would give herself fully and share laughs and tears as she worked with the thousands of individuals she met and befriended during her time there. She retired in 2006, and that allowed her to spend more time with David and to focus on her other great passion, grandkids. She fawned over all four of her “grands”, Cody (Augusta, GA), Sarah (Valdosta, GA), and Josh & Madison (Cary, NC) and was always involved in their lives no matter the distance. Time spent at Granny’s house was very special for her “grands” and parents were discouraged from hanging out too long or from correcting when ice cream sandwiches were passed out in the hot tub.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Carolyn are her father and mother (Rev & Mrs. Huffman) and her sisters Naomi and Mary Jo.
Carolyn never met a stranger and she always made sure that everyone knew that their life story mattered. She is missed by David, her kids, her “grands” and the rest of her family & friends.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday May 26th (2 p.m.) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Marietta, GA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society, a charity that Carolyn spent many hours in support of their mission.
