Bruce Joseph Fanguy (85) of Atlanta, died Thursday, February 28 of natural causes. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Montgomery Fanguy; his children Carolyn Byars (Hardin) of Atlanta; Anne-Marie McLeod (Cory) of Charlotte; and John Fanguy (Maurine) of Arlington, Va.; six grandchildren: Ryan and Emily Byars, Thomas and Daniel Montgomery, Julia and Jack Fanguy; and two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Amber Byars. He also leaves his siblings Rose Mary McKelvey (Thomas) of Macon Ga., and Roy Fanguy (Mary Ann) of College Station, Texas. He is preceded in death by his son, Bruce Montgomery Fanguy and his parents George and Rose Anna Bacon Fanguy.
Born in New Orleans, Bruce grew up in Greenwood, Miss., where he graduated from Greenwood High School in 1945. He graduated from Mississippi State with an Electrical Engineering degree and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1949, he began his career at Rotary Lift Company in Memphis. He served in the Air Force from 1951-1953, and then returned to Rotary Lift, which later became Dover Corporation. He worked in the Birmingham, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Horn Lake, Miss. offices, retiring in 1992 as Vice President of Modernization, Dover Elevator Systems.
An Eagle Scout, Bruce was active with Boy Scout Troop 341 at St. Louis Church in Memphis. In retirement, he was the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 362 at Madonna Learning Center. He was also an avid golfer and woodworker.
Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Marietta, Ga. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Atlanta. Interment will be Sunday, March 17, Riverside Cemetery, Macon, Ga. Memorials may be sent to Madonna Learning Center, Germantown, Tenn., the Boy Scouts of America or the charity of the donor’s choice
