Bobby Joe Townsend

Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory, Macland Chapel, in Powder Springs with Rev. Dr. Bill Ross officiating. Interment will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.

BJ Townsend retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1991. He was a lifelong Mason. He was raised to 33rd Degree in 1985. Among many offices, he served as, Worthy Grand Patron of Eastern Star 81-82; Grand High Priest of Georgia 84-85; Red Cross of Constantine 1974; Grand Commander Knights Templar 2002. He was a member of York Rite Sovereign College of NA and Scottish Rite Valley of Atlanta.

Survived by his wife, Barbara Gordon Townsend; two daughters, Victoria Miller (John) of Jasper, Valerie Townsend O’Neal (Frank) Jr. of Marietta; one brother, Ed Townsend of Mableton; three grandchildren, Garron Gore (Elizabeth) of Decatur, Connor O’Neal and Ian O’Neal both of Marietta;one great grandson, Grayson Gore; several nieces and nephews.
