September 21, 2024. He was born on February 27, 1929, in Bronx, NY, the second child of Leopold Loewy and Bertha Mashin.
He served in the US Army as an enlisted soldier. Art then enrolled in the University of California at Los Angeles while serving in the Army ROTC. Upon graduation he re-joined active service in the US Army and ultimately became a 1st Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps and was deployed to Korea during the Korean War.
After returning to the US, Art resigned his commission and pursued a career in Finance and Administration, employed by such corporations as RCA, Mattel, BVD, and Roblin Steel. Art then worked for Zayre Corp and TJX Companies, becoming CFO and serving on the Board of Directors from 1974 to 2001.
After becoming a Born-Again Christian at age 50, Art actively served and supported several different churches and ministries – including The Lord’s Gathering in Medford, MA, Covenant Church in Arlington, MA, Good News Fellowship in Ft Lauderdale, FL, as well as PurposeQuest International ministries and Aviva Leon ministries in Mexico. He was a major contributor to an orphanage in Acapulco, Mexico. He also served on the Board of Directors for Derek Prince Ministries for over 20 years including as Chairman of the Board.
Art enjoyed hobbies such as off-road motorcycling, golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was also an accomplished handyman and mechanic due to the improvements he and his family made to the several houses they lived in around the US, and numerous vehicles they owned, over many years.
Art is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Roberta (Fifer) Loewy, their children: Karen (Loewy) Manno, Richard Loewy, and Charles Loewy, as well as grandchildren: Joseph Loewy, Sarah (Loewy) Braeger, Laura (Manno) Christian, Kevin Manno, and Amanda Loewy, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by his brother, Lawrence “Larry” Loewy.
A memorial service for Art will be held at the HW Patterson Funeral Home in Marietta, GA at a date to be determined. HW Patterson will be assisting the family with the arrangements.
