Anna had recently struggled with some health issues but she always fought hard & typically bounced back with a great, determined energy & gusto for life. She was a force to be reckoned with. This last challenge, however, was simply too much for her body to recover from.
So our sweet Anna, sweetest Mama EVER, tough German Mutter, wife of Ford, and Granny & Geegee to her sweet grandchildren, has taken flight on Angel’s wings, straight to Heaven, straight into Jesus’ loving arms, and has been reunited with Ford/Papa, with Henry, and so many of our family that have gone before. We rejoice in knowing this, but it is still heavy on our heart, as we will miss a truly rare gem.
She was Anna Banana at Arbor Terrace and was always so positive, singing, dancing and entertaining all who would pay attention to her, a real light in this world. She never complained, ALWAYS thanked everyone for everything, even if she felt less than great, just her way of making people smile & laugh; such a fun & bright spirit filled her.
Anna was born on December 19, 1928 to Anna Simon Hartig and Josef Hartig in Frankfurt, Germany. She met the love of her life, Henry Ford Martin, in Germany, after WWII, and after a short courtship, he married her and swept her away to be an Air Force wife until they ultimately came back to Austell, GA to begin their life in America. She quickly embraced the American life, and became a real “southern gal”. She was welcomed into Ford’s large family immediately. Ford & Ann went on to have 3 children, Henry Joseph (deceased), Ronald Bruce and Patricia Ann.
Anna’s surviving family include: Daughter, Patsy Smith (and husband, Steve) of Alpharetta, GA, Son, Ron Martin (and wife, Karen) of Monroe, NC; Grandchildren Veronica Martin, Adam Martin, Steffen Smith, and Erik Smith.
Anna’s Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023 at 3:00 pm at: Georgia Memorial Park Chapel, 2000 Cobb Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
A German Dinner Celebration to honor Anna’s German heritage will follow at: Kurt’s Euro Bistro, 3305 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Unit 100, Duluth, GA 30096.
