Angela Lynn Thompson

Angela’s education began at J.T. Pirie Elementary School, Chicago. Her education continued at schools in Jeffersonville, Indiana. During her high school career, Angela was selected as a debutante at Cotillion in the Gamma Upsilon Society of Champaign, Illinois. Angela graduated from Urbana High School in the Class of 1979. After graduation she was accepted to the University of Illinois, where she received her Bachelor’s in 1983 and Master’s degrees in 1985 in Speech Pathology. Angela was granted scholarships throughout her college career. Her career as a Speech Pathologist included employment in Winchester, Richmond, and Roanoke, Virginia. Angela continued her career in Macon, Marietta, and Douglasville, Georgia.

As a teenager, Angela accepted Christ at Bethel AME in Champaign, Illinois. Angela later became a member of Beulahland Baptist Church of Warner Robins, Georgia. Once Angela moved to Marietta, Georgia, she became a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church under the watch of Pastor Craig L. Oliver, Sr.

While completing her graduate studies, Angela married Gregory Gene Thompson, a fellow University of Illinois student, on August 10, 1985. Three children were born of this union: Gregory II, Victoria, and Lawrence. As a mother, Angela was dedicated to the growth and welfare of her children. In the home she was gifted with a keen sense of humor and known for her extraordinary depth of kindness and concern for her family and others. Angela strongly encouraged higher education and often expressed how important it was to her children and her students. During her 30 year career, Angela enjoyed helping her students succeed; providing speech services was her passion.

Angela will be remembered for her compassion toward others and her gentle spirit. Angela expressed this compassion by watching over the infants in the C.A.M.P. Nursery Ministry at Elizabeth Baptist Church. She also consistently donated clothing and money to help the homeless and children in need.

Angela enjoyed traveling, watching movies, going out to restaurants, and spending time with her family.

Angela went from labor to reward on March 31, 2013.

Angela is preceded in death by her husband Gregory Gene, her grandparents, James and Gladys Wright, and Corden and Ethel Porter, and a brother, Lewis Wright, M.D. Angela leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Gregory Thompson Jr., Victoria Thompson and Lawrence Thompson; a granddaughter Ariana Thompson, a sister Theresa Louise (Carey) McBride, two brothers, James Wright, M.D., and Stuart Wright; her brother and sister-in-law Jerry Thompson and Gina Thompson, her mother, Margaret Porter Wright; her father, Dr. Lewis Wright; nieces, Olivia and Andréya McBride, Brittany and Kirsten Wright, a nephew, Lewis Wright III, and a host of cousins, friends and colleagues.
