A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta with the interment following at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta.
David was born September 18, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio and moved with his family to Georgia during his senior year of high school. In 1968, he married his soulmate, Gloria Bird (née Brown), and together they raised three children: Ana and Jeff Stokes (parents of Emilie and Aidan), Matthew and Armida Bird (parents of Isabel), and Noel and Matthew Weeks (parents of Kai).
David was the beloved brother of Karen McPhee, Michael Bird, Stephen Bird (Romy), Daniel Bird (Lucia), and Mary Staley (Scott), and was a cherished uncle to 12 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews, many of whom he taught to play catch.
He was preceded in death by his parents Allan and Marguerite Bird (née Reisch).
David dedicated 50 years to his work as a clinical psychologist. He was empathetic, compassionate, a great listener, and helped many in his years of counseling, performing what he described as “works of mercy” when referring to his vocation. Outside of work and family, he spent time with his many books, dogs, maps, traveling with his wife, and searching for the highest vantage point on his nature walks or wherever else he found himself.
His family remembers him for his intelligence, humor, and love. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live through his loved ones and the many people he touched in his life.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel with a Prayer Service being held at 6:30 p.m.
