Alexander Roger Zimmermacher, 37, of Marietta, passed away among his friends and family March 4, 2017 as a result of aggressive brain cancer. He was born May 7, 1979, the son of loving parents Drs. Ann M. Clark and Allan Zimmermacher. Alexander’s care during his final year was continuously maintained through the loving support of friends and family and especially his father. Alexander wanted more than anything to beat this illness and often spoke positively of his future. He attended Marietta City Schools, Lockhart Academy, Southern Polytechnic State University and Kennesaw State University where he earned certification in Personal Training. Although he didn’t attend Georgia Tech, he was passionate about Yellow Jacket sports. He loved Saturday afternoons at Bobby Dodd Stadium, rooting for his team on the small screen when he couldn’t make it in and, especially, Tech basketball. He also followed, voraciously, The Atlanta Falcons and, in particular, The Hawks.
Growing up, Alex was a talented athlete, musician and animal lover; traits he would carry throughout his too short life. Playing basketball and saxophone were among his favorite pastimes. He loved spending his childhood summers with his family in Sanibel Island crabbing and deep sea fishing. He attended First United and Christ Lutheran churches as a child and young adult and though Alexander was a believer in God, he recently hadn’t attended as often as he’d like. He has been guided home by the Holy Spirit and is with God the Father and Jesus in Heaven.
Big Al was an accomplished body builder and enjoyed spending his free time in the gym. After years of intense training with his close colleagues at Marietta Barbell and World Gym (among others), Alexander competed in body building competitions and placed 2nd in state in the novice heavyweight division.
Alexander is survived by his mother Dr. Ann M. Clark, father Dr. Allan Zimmermacher, sister Emmalee (Zimmermacher) Furin, and brother-in-law William Furin. His Aunts and Uncles; Dr. Alice Sydney Clark and Gert Wehinger, Les and Anna Clark, Roger and Laura Clark, Dr. David Clark, and Linda Zimmermacher. Among his many cousins; Heather Brillhart, Elizabeth (Brillhart) Rogers, Margaux Bornant, Tania (Clark) Rivas, Elisa (Clark) Parker, Robin Clark, and Ben and Matthew Clark. Last but certainly not least, his beloved dogs Jack and Max.
Alexander was surrounded by his family and close friends when he passed. He will be missed dearly.
