Peg was born in Long Island City, New York to Francis Joseph Monaghan and Mary Cecilia (Daly) Monaghan on June 20th 1930. She graduated from high school with a 4.0 average in 1948.
Peg’s dream profession was to be a teacher. She reached that goal after her children had grown. She became an enthusiastic educator as part of the teaching staff of Whiddon Rogers Education Center for 11 years. She had a passion for helping people. For the past 35 years Peg has mentored numerous women working on spiritual growth. Her faith and belief in Jesus, was a priority and she made sure her children knew about the importance of this belief. Peg was active in church and Bible study. She deeply loved her family and friends and is dearly loved by them. She was an avid reader and self-published her book, “There’s Nothing Good About Goodbye” Historical Fiction. Very community conscious, she was presented with the key to Margate, England while touring Europe, representing Margate, Florida. Always proud of her heritage she also realized a dream to visit the home of our ancestors in Fermanagh, Ireland. She stayed in touch with “distant” cousins of the Monaghan clan right up until her passing. As an only child, Peg always longed for a large family. She was very proud to be the matriarch of such a family and has left a legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was grateful to God to have lived long enough to see great-grandchildren.
Peg is survived by her daughter, Mary Spencer of West Palm Beach, son Jim Walkden of Margate and Jane Cole, daughter and son in law Pegi and Joel Richardson of Parkland. Joann and Pam Richardson and Jim Marlowe. Grandchildren, Michele Yecker, Sarah and Glenn Israelson, Stephanie and Nate Schneider, Katie and Kurt Buckholz, Kim Walkden and Kord Laughlin, Bryan and Dina Richardson, and Kevin Richardson.
