John (Jack) William Fitzgerald (86) beloved husband of Ann (Ryan) Fitzgerald of Coconut Creek, Fl, passed away on Saturday November 27, 2021. He was born on June 21, 1935 to the late John and Elizabeth (Murray) Fitzgerald and was a longtime resident of Waterbury CT. After graduating from Crosby High school he went to college in Detroit MI. He earned certification as an aerospace design engineer. He joined the Army Reserves and later active duty at Fort Gordon during the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Staff Sargeant and was honorably discharged in 1962. John worked hard for his family before retirement. He & Ann took the family on adventures whether it was walking the Freedom Trail in Boston, a trip to the shore or Disney. He and Ann also enjoyed traveling to Aruba. He loved watching his kids play sports, whether competitive swimming or diving, football, lacrosse or soccer. He was a fixture on the sidelines and could be heard cheering the family on – he oftentimes lost his voice! He also enjoyed watching football whether college or NFL and could be heard yelling at the TV quite often. He enjoyed playing bocci later in life.
John was a longtime member of SS Peter and Paul Parish in Waterbury where he was a Eucharistic Minister and President of the Parish Council. John was a 30 year member of the American Legion, most recently in Commander of Post 170 in District 9 in Florida. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he served as Assistant Director of Lucaya Lane 2304 in Wynmoor for 14 years.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann, as well as their seven children: Mrs Maureen (Fitzgerald) Church, John M Fitzgerald and his wife Chasity Fitzgerald, Paul Fitzgerald and his wife Laura (Marks) Fitzgerald, Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Laura (Tranchina) Fitzgerald, Marita Fitzgerald, Michael (Mike) Fitzgerald and his wife Erica (Kish) Fitzgerald and Ann Marie (Fitzgerald) Boehlert.
He also has eighteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John is also predeceased by his brother William (Billy) Fitzgerald.
