George LaMonica of Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 5, 2022. George was born February 22, 1944 in Greenwich, CT to the late Samuel LaMonica and Lee Biase. He was preceded in death by his loving sister Angela Perillo, nephew Jeff Ciboroski and two very special four leg companions, Snuggles.
George enjoyed cooking and opened his first restaurant, LaMonicas, on the Post Road in Cos Cob, CT in the 1960s. After moving to Fort Lauderdale, he opened Mom's Kitchen in 1972. George owned and operated this well known diner for 50 years before retiring. He was a Marine Veteran, great football player ,and an avid sports fan who displayed much of his memorabilia collection in the restaurant. George was also a collector of vintage cars, enjoyed his family, friends and animals.
George is survived by two nieces, Jana Ciboroski and Jill Brown and two great nephews, John and Shane Brown.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Broward County Humane Society.
A visitation for George will be held Monday, August 15, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1 North State Road 7, Margate, FL 33063. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 S. State Rd. 7, N. Lauderdale, FL 33068.
