He was born November 14, 1956 in Belvidere to Stephen H. and Dorothy (Slaughter) Otis. Steve was a 1975 graduate of Marengo Community High School.
Steve took joy in seeing and chatting with people. He particularly enjoyed working for many years with Skinner Amusements. Steve was an avid supporter of Marengo High School sports programs. He could always be found greeting everyone from the first bleacher. He had an incredible memory and loved keeping track of scores and statistics. Steve was proud of his Marengo heritage and to be a member of the Marengo Community.
Steve is survived by his mother, Dorothy; his sisters, Elizabeth (Joe) Henning and Jennifer (Bill) Hoeske; his nieces and nephews, Ryan (Darcey) Carr, Stephanie (Dave) Fanthorpe, Ben (Tessa McClain) Henning, Trae (Lauren Kratochwill) Hoeske, Jesse (Sarah) Henning, Lynsey (Blake Jacobs) Hoeske; great-nieces and nephews; and his aunts and uncles, Jeanne (Jim) Schaefer, Midge Wagner, Kurt (Jan) Slaughter.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Stephen.
There will be a visitation from 4 to 8pm on Tuesday, May 25 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. There will be a continued visitation from 10am to 11am on Wednesday, May 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St, Union. The funeral service will follow at 11am.
Interment in Marengo City Cemetery.
