Robert S. Montgomery

Robert graduated from Marengo Community High School in 1953. He was active in basketball and the FFA and up until the last few months, continued to meet with his classmates for monthly breakfast. Robert worked for 40 years with Curran Contracting Company and has been described as “one of the best grader operators ever seen”. He was a lifelong member of the Midwest Operator Engineers, Local 150. He also farmed in Riley Township for over 80 years. Robert loved nothing more than being on his John Deere tractors and sharing that love with his children. Robert also served in the United States Army, stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from 1960-1962. Robert enjoyed playing horseshoes, cards, bowling, and softball in his younger days.

Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maryida (Fritsch) Montgomery; children, Brenda (Karl) Meintz, Steven (Sheri) Montgomery, Wendy Minakes, and Nathan (Tina) Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Dena Montgomery; grandchildren, Chloe Montgomery, Kathryn (Kamran) Schroeder/Emami, Kody, Kole, Kelsey (Elliott) Anderson and Kaela Montgomery, and Mackenzie and Nash Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Kathryn Montgomery; Brothers, Wayne and James Montgomery, son, Wayne Montgomery and son-in-law David Minakes.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 10am until the time of Service at 12pm at Marengo-Union Funeral Home (505 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo, IL 60152). Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Marengo, IL. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Florence Nursing Home Staff for all of the wonderful and compassionate care they showed to Robert.
