He was born April 29, 1930 in El Paso, Texas to Clarence and Lucille (Graves) Pfiffner. On January 23, 1954 he married Barbara Jo Rumer.
John served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. When he returned from Korea, John received an Architecture degree from Iowa State University. He was a practicing architect in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Mt. Vernon area until his retirement in 2000. One of his hobbies was woodworking. A great joy for John was participating in the coffee club that met in the basement of Bauman's clothing store in Mt. Vernon.
John is survived by his children, Tony (Susanne) Pfiffner of Spesbach, Germany, Timothy (Lisa) Pfiffner of Marengo, IL, Thomas (Maria) Pfiffner of Buffalo, NY, Ann (Monte Scheib) Pfiffner of Fort Collins, CO, Matthew (Debra) Pfiffner of Mt. Dora, FL; his grandchildren, Bradley (Elizabeth) Pfiffner of Harvard, IL, Corey Pfiffner of Smyrna, GA, Andrew Pfiffner of Goodletsville, TN, Lindsey Pfiffner of Valley Village, CA, Brittney Pfiffner of Minot, ND, Erik Pfiffner of Berlin, Germany, Hannah Pfiffner of Berlin, Germany, Leah Pfiffner of Mt. Dora, FL, and Luke Scheib of Fort Collins, CO; his brother-in-law, John Rumer of Urbandale, IA; and his niece and nephews, Rick (Ann) Rumer, Rod Rumer, Steve Pfiffner, and Kathy Nugent.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; and his brother, Robert Pfiffner.
There will be a private inurnment at Fairfield Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa.
