Gregory Sroka, 66, of Garden Prairie died January 8, 2015 at home. He was born September 13, 1948 in Chicago to Mitchell and Josephine (nee Storcz) Sroka. He married Rose Riedl on September 15, 1979 in Dundee. Greg was educated in Chicago, K-3 at Lafayette public grade school, Gr.4-8 at St. Mark Catholic grade school, Gr.9-12 at Gordon Tech. H.S. and Gr. 13-16 achieving a B.A. in Secondary Music Education at Northeastern Ill. University. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army National Guard after serving in the 33rd BDE. 108th. Spt. Bn. Co. D Tech.Supply. His work career was as a Band Director for 6 years at St. Edward H.S. in Elgin, and 1 year at Drisscoll H.S. in Addison Ill. He worked as a party chief in Land Surveying since 1977. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Alpha Chi Epsilon, Phi Mu Alpha- Sinfonia a Professional Men’s Music Fraternity, and achieved the rank of Life while at Troop 81 B.S.A. He was a composer, musician, coin collector, Model train enthusiast, swimmer, fisherman, camper, and dog lover. He put his families well being above all else.
He is survived by his wife Rose Sroka; children: Julia (Andrew) Miller, Nathan Sroka, Cassandra Sroka; grandchildren: Alyssa Sroka and Kiera Miller; brother James (Barb) Dickinsin-Sroka; sisters: Christine (Tony) Winter, donna (Jeff) Nault; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Tues, Jan 13 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy. Marengo. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wed, Jan 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St. Marengo. Interment will be private.
