Edwin Howard Switzer

Edwin Howard Switzer, age 85, of Marengo, Illinois passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 26, 1937 in Huntley, Illinois to the late Howard and Ruth (Rosman) Switzer. When Edwin was six years old, his family moved to Marengo where he remained in his family home for 79 years.

During his childhood and into adulthood, he helped his dad host pony rides throughout the community. He settled into his career at Heinold Hog Market and spent many years there. From there, he joined Bob Haase in working on custom furniture. This opened new doors and started a career working at Furniture Medic and doing his own repair work on furniture. After his retirement, he was known for helping his friends and neighbors with miscellaneous jobs. He had a skill in leather work and enjoyed volunteering. He loved being around his cats, dogs, and birds.

Ed loved spending time with his grandkids any chance he got. He will be dearly missed by all his family, friends, and neighbors.

Edwin in survived by his wife Mary (Petersen) Switzer; his son Chad Switzer; his grandchildren Carina Switzer, Callie Switzer, and Olivia Switzer; his step-daughter Marti K. Petersen, and his sister Ruth-Ann Driver. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2023 from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E Grant Hwy, Marengo, IL 60152. A funeral service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to Happy Snout Ranch, W2637 Otto Ct, East Troy, WI 53120.
