David M. Wolf, native Marengoan, passed away during heart surgery, in Atlanta Georgia. The Wolf family have been multi-generational members of the community and were life-long members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo.
David was a 1978 graduate of Marengo Community High School. In 1983, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and in 1986 a Master of Science in environmental chemistry from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
As a career scientist and partner with a private environmental firm, Integrated Science and Technology, of Marietta, Georgia, David supervised a team who investigated and measured toxic, chemical spills in soil and ground water. David was a Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM). He dedicated his entire career to implementing remediation and restoration of the land making it safe for the rest of us.
David was a quiet man, but he was the strongest man we ever knew. He faced adversity without complaint and with dignity and grace. David was independent and the consummate self-starter. David was a conscientious, hard worker who relished taking on challenging tasks. He was a field scientist and preferred physical field work rather than sitting at a desk. We remember him for his warm humor and droll wit, his generosity of spirit and love of friends and family.
David was preceded in death by his Mother, Patricia Wolf (nee Jackson, formerly of Chicago) and his father Charles Wolf of Marengo, sister, Barbara Beebe, aunts, uncles and cousin Al Johnson, Charles Smessaert, William Johnson, Mary Jo Johnson, and George Wolf.
He is survived by his brother, Michael Wolf, Michael’s son and daughter Ian and Hillary Wolf, brother Tony Wolf, niece and nephew, Monica (David) Florent and Matthew (Rebecca) Beebe, his aunt, Doloris Wolf, and the Sweet family, Carol, James, Elizabeth (Peters), James III, and Amelia.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo. Funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St, Marengo. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Marengo.
