Amelia (Amy) Therese Weir, 55, of Marengo, passed away unexpectedly on February 12, 2022. Amy was born on April 13, 1966 to Thomas and Irene Weir in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Wibaux, Montana, relocated back to the Chicago area her senior year and graduated from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL in 1984. Amy enjoyed a lengthy career in the insurance underwriting industry. She inherited her mother’s love of cooking and was attending culinary school at the time of her death, with plans to work in that field after graduation.
Amy cared greatly about the fate of animals in rescue shelters. She rescued two dogs, Monty and Selma, and delighted in spoiling them rotten every day! Amy was wickedly funny and keenly interested in politics. She could debate anyone into the ground and enjoyed engaging in mortal debate combat online! Amy’s favorite hobby was competitive foosball. She was not only extremely talented at the sport, she treasured the many good friends she met in the foosball community. Amy was a passionate patriot and had great appreciation and respect for our nation’s military and policemen/women.
Amy was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Irene Weir. She is survived by her beloved son, Simon Weir-Benham, her life partner, Pat Perrotta, sisters Elizabeth (Scott) Ricci of San Antonio, TX, and Colleen (Roy) Krause of Nashville, TN, her brother Morgan Weir of Nashville, TN, her nieces Rachael (Steve) Lanham, Rebecca (John) Brauer, Anna (Jon) Wyman, and Brenna Krause, as well as her nephews Paul Krause and Finnian Weir.
Interment private. A Celebration of Life gathering will occur this summer in the Chicago area.
