William "Mike" Carson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Mike” Carson on December 2nd, 2023, at the age of 68. Mike passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 27th, 1955, to the late Bill and Marie Carson, graduated from Steinert High School in 1972, and subsequently achieved an Associate’s Degree from Sinclair Jr College.

In 1984, Mike met his great love Ellen Klesmer; they married in 1985 and enjoyed 38 years together. Until recently, they lived and raised their children Alexander and Samantha in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Mike’s joy in life was sharing his passion for food and cooking--he was most at home entertaining loved ones with his favorite recipes. He was known for his parties with friends and family, his cooking, his dirty martinis, and his amazing sense of humor, which brought such joy to many.

Mike had a successful career in the food industry, including managing a number of restaurants. During the 1990’s Mike conceived, opened, and operated his own restaurant, The Rib Cage’N, where he perfected his sticky ribs and etouffee.

Mike wasn’t just all about food: he was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan and followed both teams closely. He loved to travel to Hawaii and within Europe, especially Italy. His love of golf was enormous—so much he even convinced his wife to join him, well…briefly. He was also a great golf mentor—his golf buddies acknowledge Mike’s guidance improved their games. We know that his passion for the sport will live on through his friends on the links.

Seeking a warmer climate and a more laid back lifestyle, Mike and Ellen embraced their dream of moving to Florida in 2020. Their children, Ellen’s mother Lois Klesmer, and long time New Jersey friends relocated with them to continue their closeness and the pleasure of each other’s company.

Mike has touched the hearts of so many through his love and generosity. He was truly a great man and will be missed immensely.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3 o’clock on December 18, 2023 at the Tiki Bar at Naples Reserve.
