Thomas Michael Maguire, “Wee Tommy” to all who knew him, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, to the late Michael Maguire and Annie (Clerkin) Maguire. Tom was the third of four children who grew up in Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland.
Tom was a loving husband and father; a Carpenter by trade; a United States Army Veteran who served two years in Hawaii; an American Patriot; an avid reader of historical books; a good cook who made the best “bacon-and-scrambled egg breakfast in town!”; a great storyteller himself; a collector and owner of antique cars; a generous man who helped others in their needs; the shining light of any party; a generous connoisseur of great tasting food, knew where all the “great” restaurants were located; and a strong believer in his Catholic Faith, who prayed the Rosary every night with his wife, Mary and attended weekly Sunday Mass.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Mary Maguire, married for 59 years and his four children, spouses and grandchildren - Doreen & Roger LaPorte; Thomas & Karen Maguire and five grandchildren, Megan, Kyle, Collin, Michael & Emma Maguire; Christina Maguire, daughter in law and two grandchildren, Mary & Joshua Maguire; Melinda & Bill Harnett and two grandchildren, James & Ryan Harnett; & Joseph Maguire & Denise Howell. Tom is preceded in death by his third child, James Maguire, who passed on 3/3/2014 whose wife, Christina survives with their two children Mary & Joshua Maguire.
Tom is also survived by his only living sibling, his sister, Philomena (Maguire) Benson, her husband, John Benson and their five children Con, Annie, John, Tommy & James Benson and their spouses and children. Tom is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins, from Northern Ireland, Ireland, England and the United States of America.
Tom’s Wake will be held at Hodges Josberger Funeral Home located at 577 E. Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, Florida, on Thursday, December 1st, from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Tom’s Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 2nd, 10:30 am at the San Marco Catholic Church, at 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island, Florida 34145. Burial will immediately follow at the Marco Island Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or a Veterans Organization of your choice in Tom’s memory.
