Salvatore (Sal) Sciarrino of Marco Island passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Sal was born on August 20, 1930, in Lowell, Massachusetts to parents Carlo and Santa Sciarrino. Sal and his beloved wife, Ruth, who passed away in 2021, resided in Merrick, Long Island before moving to Marco in 1980.
In 1945, Sal enlisted in the Marine Corps guided by his sense of duty to our country to fight in World War II. Sal was a member of the Marco Island Chapter of the American Legion, and the last Marco Island WWII surviving veteran, proud member of the greatest generation and the Marine Corps.
Sal joined the Nassau County Police on Long Island, retiring as a detective in 1980. During his tenure he became the personal assistant to the Nassau County Commissioner. When the Commissioner traveled to Marco Island to buy property, Sal came with him on that trip and decided Marco was the place for him and Ruth to retire.
After he came to Marco to enjoy retirement with Ruthie, the love of his life, he went into real estate sales and was very successful. Sal was a member of the San Marco Catholic Church where he was an usher at the Sunday 8:00 AM Mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was the Past Grand Knight of Council 6344. Faithful Navigator of Assembly 2514, as well as District Deputy for the Southwest Region of the State of Florida.
A Mass of Christian burial and celebration of life will be held in January at San Marco Catholic Church. Date to be announced.
