Born October 10th, 1929, in Ozone Park, Queens, NY, Robert (Bob) was the son of the late Florence (Kurz) and Louis Reinig. Bob attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. He was the first in his family to attend college. He spent his entire 38-year career at Grumman Aerospace Corp. in Bethpage, NY, where he played a role in the development and manufacturing of the F-14 Tomcat.
Bob was the beloved and devoted husband of his wife of 67 years, Julie, who went to heaven in 2019. He was also predeceased by his younger brother Warren Louis Reinig in 2018. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Orlik of Mineola, NY, son Robert K. Reinig and his wife Elena of Pearce, AZ, and daughter Diane Reinig of Naples, FL. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Bob and Julie raised their family in Mineola and Garden City, NY before retiring to Florida on Marco Island and later in Naples. His last few years were spent in Bonita Springs.
Curious, intelligent, and generous, Bob loved to travel, garden, play tennis and golf, read, and entertain. He did everything with honesty and integrity. Always active in his community and church, he was a dedicated servant of the Lord throughout his life, and a faithful communicant of Marco Lutheran Church. He will be greatly missed.
