Born October 27, 1954 in Shaker Heights (Cleveland), Ohio.
Dick graduated from the highly rated Shaker Heights schools. He enjoyed academia, car sales, automation, and marine trades – but the love of his life was sailing, and there he excelled.
Dick was the youngest son of Edith (Naughton) and William B. West (both deceased), brother of Mary Lynn Gorman of Avon (Hartford), Connecticut, Bill and Annerose (Zorn) West of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Tom and Karen (Thomas) West of Gates Mills, Ohio. An older brother, John, passed away from Cystic Fibrosis when Dick was young. Dick’s relaxed demeanor was loved by his ten nieces and nephews, their spouses and dozens of their children.
