Richard Francis Freeman, 90, of Marco Island, FL, and Quechee, VT, peacefully departed this life Sunday, July 21st, after a brief illness. Watching over from Heaven, he leaves behind his beautiful wife, Barbara (Calhoun); his brother, John (Susan); four children, Kathleen Zellner (Dennis), Kevin, Kelley Felner (Tom), and Keith (Lindsay); and three grandchildren, Christopher (Lindsay), Kellie, and Taylor.
Born in Mt. Kisco, NY, Dick spent his childhood on the Goodrich family estate in Chappaqua, NY, and graduated from Horace Greeley High School. He attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he pledged Delta Tau Delta, making wonderful, life-long friends, and met the love of his life, Barbara.
Dick’s career in banking began at the Central National Bank in Cleveland and continued at The Bank Mart in Bridgeport, CT, where he was President and CEO. He and Barbara raised their kids in Fairfield, CT, and spent many weekends at the Fairfield Beach Club or driving up to Quechee to ski and relax. They discovered the beauty of Marco Island in the late 80’s, and made it their home, welcoming family, celebrating milestones, attending Mass at San Marco Church and giving back to their beloved community.
When he wasn't busy regaling his friends and family with tales of his childhood or preparing the world’s best scrambled eggs or toasted cheese sandwiches, Dick was playing tennis, golf, reading, or watching college sports or any sports for that matter. He was a seasoned traveler, loved gardening, vanilla ice cream, and researching his Irish heritage and family lineage.
Dick served with pride (and well into his mid 80s), on multiple boards including, the Hideaway Beach Association, the Federal Reserve Bank (NY), Connecticut Energy Corporation, State National Bank of CT, the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation, and Park City Hospital.
His generosity, wisdom, warm smile, and love for his family will be greatly missed.
The family will hold a private service in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, the Freemans invite well-wishers to donate to Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock, VT, in Dick's memory.
