Lee George Walter Dorison

Lee, the son of Lee Richard and Cora Mary (Joly) Dorison, was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania on February 2, 1943 and spent much of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. As a teenager, he attended Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama, before attending John Hopkins University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, followed by an MBA from The Wharton School (UPenn).

A born leader and natural negotiator, known for his calm confidence, Lee was an esteemed corporate executive for much of his career, before pivoting to executive recruiting, and later, real estate. Most recently with Downing-Frye Realty, Inc.

Lee is survived by his three children: Matt Dorison and wife Megan, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mark Dorison and wife Nic Screws of St. Petersburg, Florida; Adrienne Dorison and husband Tyler Brannon, also of St. Petersburg, Florida; as well as four grandchildren: Sam, Kai, Kit and Cora and a nephew, Barry Gastrock, Jr. and his wife Kay. He also leaves behind his loving partner of 14 years, Dwyn von Bereghy, and their dog Liza, whom he shared many happy years with in Chenequa, Wisconsin, before they moved to their forever home on Marco Island in 2017. Along with Dwyn, he was very close to her daughter, Lauren Mrozowski, and son-in-law John, and their two sons, Tato and Otto, all of Hartsdale, New York, who affectionately knew him as “Dapa Dee.”

He is predeceased in death by his parents and his half brother Capt. Barry Allen Gastrock.

His kids will miss his consistent nature and the way he was cautiously optimistic about life. He loved fishing, having just visited Guatemala last summer on a dream charter, as well as reading, shooting, the beach, and Green Bay Packers and Florida Gators football. He was also a proud member of the Marco Island Yacht Club, where he served as Quartermaster.

The family would like to thank all the healthcare workers at NCH Baker Hospital for their compassionate care and support for Lee.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in the fall.
