John Fusco

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Fusco Sr., 84, of Marco Island, Florida. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the loving husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Fusco and beloved father to Donna Tabor with Joseph Konya, Joyce Potynski and her husband Steve, John Fusco and his wife Michele, and Christopher Fusco and his wife Jill. Cherished grandfather of Tony (Grace), Janelle (Tomas), Michael (Brit), Mikayla (Jesse), Jenny (Brian), Jordan, Thomas, Jonathan (Val), Julia, and Maddie. Also great grandfather to Cole, Lainey, Santiago, and Santino. He was also extremely close to his sister-in-law, Linda Minto and her husband, Norman.

John had a lifelong career with Thomas and Betts in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he met his lovely bride, Betty, of nearly 62 years. He was a business partner with the United Way of Union County, New Jersey. John also coordinated work activities with the occupational center of Union County where he empowered people with disabilities with employment and independence.

In retirement, John continued to give back by becoming an active member with the Knights of Columbus on Marco Island serving as a fourth-degree knight and faithful navigator. He assisted on many committees and helped organize programs like the “Honor Flight” for retired war veterans.

John loved the sea and was an avid fisherman and boater on Long Beach Island, NJ and Marco Island, FL. He spent countless hours fishing, swimming, and building sandcastles with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Marco Island Italian American Society, and being of Italian Heritage, he was a proud man, but nothing made him more proud than his family, to him, family was special and always in his heart.

A Funeral Mass will be held at San Marco Catholic Church on Marco Island Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to AVOW HOSPICE.
