James M. Lang of Marco Island, Florida passed away Tuesday, July 11th, 2023. He was born on June 28, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. James graduated from Chardon High School and attended Kent State University.
Jim served in Viet Nam in the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles) and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart among many other medals. He and his brother owned Lang Distributors, a successful automotive warehouse in Chardon, Ohio. When they sold it to Ford Motor Company in 1999, Jim retired to Marco Island, Florida. Being a workaholic, retirement didn’t suit him, so he accepted a job with the City of Marco as Customer Service Manager for 12 years.
Jim was Commander of the VFW for many years and the Commander of the War Veterans of Marco. His brainchild was lining hundreds of flags all up and down Collier Boulevard for the patriotic holidays for over 20 years. He emceed the ceremonies for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day and he organized the tribute ceremony for the Veteran’s Park grand opening. Jim held the elected position of President of the Collier County Soil and Water Board and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, President of Marco Manor Condo Assn. and was Volunteer of the year for the American Cancer Society.
Jim was an active, strong and vibrant man before he was paralyzed by a stroke three years ago. He was known for his sense of humor, willingness to help anyone and talking to everyone he met. While his main focus was devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren, he always found time to help others.
Jim will forever be missed by his loving wife, Donna of 54 years, daughter Tammy (Tom) Ryon and son Brandon Lang, Grandchildren Olivia and Isabella Delgado and Gavin Lang. He leaves behind his younger brother, Tom (Christine) Lang, several nieces and nephews and sister and brother in laws, and cousins. He will be missed by his faithful Maltipoo, Arfie, who sat by his side always. His other siblings, William and Albert Lang along with his Mother and Father, Albert and Jeanne Lang will welcome him into Heaven.
A memorial Mass will be held at the San Marco Catholic Church in Marco Island on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:30.
