Born in Providence, Rhode Island Gail was the daughter of the late William and Hope (Cassidy) Trapp. Along with her two adult children and two grandchildren, Mrs. Dunphy leaves behind thousands of students she taught at Cushing Elementary in Scituate, Massachusetts for thirty years and Tommy Barfield Elementary in Marco Island, Florida for twelve years. Many of Gail’s former students kept in touch and attributed their success and happiness to her early childhood teachings and encouragement. The only thing Gail loved more than teaching was traveling to exotic islands with Ed and spending time with her closest friends, family and grandchildren. Gail loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She brought so much joy to her classrooms and her loved ones.
Gail was born on July 28, 1945. She received her associate degree in Education at Rhode Island College. In her younger years, Gail loved playing a variety of roles in community theater and spearheaded gourmet clubs. She was head of the PTA and tirelessly involved in all aspects of education. A true advocate, Gail made it her mission to support inclusion and lobbied for appropriate resources in the schools where she taught. Gail even helped implement maternity leave for all teachers in Scituate in the 1970s. She was an incredible role model for her students and colleagues.
In addition to long-term partner Ed, Gail is survived by her son, Kyle Dunphy of Los Angeles, her daughter, Heather (Dunphy) Daley and husband Kevin, of Winchester, Massachusetts as well as her two grandchildren McKenna and Hunter Daley.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 10th at 11:30 am at St. Finbarr Parish, 13520 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL.
