Edward George Hughes went to be with our Lord on January 9th, 2020. Ed was born on April 5, 1923 to Harrison and Dorthy Hughes in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Cooley high school and immediately went into the service. Ed, aka Buddy, served in the Air Corps during World War II.
Edward met the love of his life, Betty Anne Day, when he returned from the war. They married, settled in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area, and were blessed with three children, Deborah Day Hughes, Rebecca Anne Hughes Brown, and Edward George Hughes Jr. (Chip). Ed and Betty spent 67 years as man and wife, best friends, and soul mates.
Ed was a very successful business owner in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a father, a grandfather, and a great grandfather to a family that was will miss his guidance and sense of humor.
He believed in leading by example. Respect, understanding, faith, and humor were God’s gifts to Ed. Ed was God’s gift to us!
