Virginia Healy-Kenney, of Marblehead, passed away surrounded by her adoring family November 24, 2017. “Ginny” embodied selflessness, joy, light and love. She is survived by her husband James Kenney; daughter Megan Sweeney and her husband Charles Blood Jr.; granddaughters Sarah Wheeler, Hadley Blood, and Emily Blood; brother William Laubenstein; nephew Trevor Laubenstein and his wife Stacy; and their children Ford and Reed.
Ginny’s career was in providing financing for affordable housing. She even met her husband while at US the Dept. of HUD and they enjoyed many adventures together. Retiring 25 years later from Mass Housing only motivated her to campaign and win a seat on Marblehead’s Housing Authority.
Ginny’s devotion to motherhood surpassed her career accomplishments, forming a mother-daughter bond that strengthened at each stage of life - they were together at Megan’s first breath, and at Ginny’s last.
Tirelessly working in her garden by the sea, Ginny only took breaks to cheer at her granddaughters’ competitions or to host family celebrations - her presence forever marked by her infectious laugh.
In her absence, there is a profound quiet. Let us hope by coming together on December 21, 11:00am at the Old North Church, 35 Washington Street, Marblehead where we can honor such an extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity (https://www.habitat.org/donate/?keyword=header) or Spaulding Rehabilitation Network (https://giving.spauldingnetwork.org/donate). Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
