Survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Virginia (Doyle) Papagelis, he was the devoted father to Peter Papagelis and his wife Sarah (Stewart) Papagelis of Long Beach, California.
Born in Lynn on June 3, 1928 to the late Charles and Julia Papagelis, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career working for the General Adjustment Bureau and The Burke Corporation. He served his country during the Korean War as a sergeant with the United States Army. A long-time member of the Marblehead Yacht Club and Boggestow Ski Club, Telly enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, skiing, and spending time with friends and family.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Alan Doyle and wife Ann Doyle, of Marblehead, and brother-in-law Michael Doyle and wife Adina Doyle, of Oxford, Maine. Telly “The Big Greek” Papagelis will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held at Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead on Saturday, November 26 at 12PM. Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Village at Vinnin Square clubhouse, located at 200 Loring Hills Avenue in Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Friday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Telly’s memory to the Michael J.
