MARBLEHEAD - Sarah Jane Drewry, age 95, of Marblehead passed away on August 12, 2023. She was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and was the beloved wife of Kenneth Drewry, who she met at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. They shared 74 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of James Drewry (Jo Schmidt), Thomas Drewry (Marie Drewry), and Jayne Drewry-Leahy (Dick Leahy); the cherished Grandmother of Lindsey and Locklin McKinnon, Hillary and Michael Sarvary, Shauna and Matt Travaglini, Trisha and Ryan Labbe , Kenneth Drewry, Brian Leahy, Kevin Leahy, and David Leahy. She was the dear sister of Paula Chandler of Appleton Wisconsin.
Sarah and Ken moved to Marblehead Massachusetts in 1955 and raised their three children. She was a longtime member of UU Church of Greater Lynn Swampscott MA, Marblehead League of Woman Voters, Corinthian Yacht Club Marblehead, and the Historical Society of Early American Decorators. Sarah volunteered for many years at Marblehead Junior Aid Society, was a Secretary to the Marblehead Housing Committee, an assistant teacher teaching ESL and living skills at Operation Bootstrap Lynn (which became Pathways Lynn). She was taught to sail by her husband and sailed alongside him for thirty years in the Lightning, 210, and IOD class. She enjoyed downhill skiing, her garden and sharing produce with everyone, decorative arts, bell ringing at the church, and her volunteer ship in many organizations made everyone feel welcome. Sarah listened to everyone and was noted for her kindness, devotion and sincerity. She cherished her time spent with her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service for Sarah will be held on August 31, 2023, at 10:30 AM at UU Church of Greater Lynn, 101 Forest Ave Swampscott. Reception to follow at the church.
