Born in Boston on October 22, 1936 to Ella (Monahan) Bowman and Frederick Warren Bowman, she graduated from Weymouth High School in 1954.
Early in her work career, she worked for Arthur D. Little in Cambridge, where she met her future husband, Jerry. She and Jerry were married in 1965 in Marblehead. Nancy was on the Board of Directors of Marblehead Youth Soccer in the late 1970s, and served as the administrator to the Rector at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, where she was a parishioner for almost 60 years. In 1985, she began as an administrative assistant at the Warren Five Cents Savings Bank in Peabody, and eventually became the branch manager of the Peabody Square office before her retirement in 1998. She was involved in many community activities in Peabody, as well, including co-chairing the holiday concert committee for several years under then-mayor Peter Torigian.
In retirement, she and Jerry loved to travel, hike, and enjoy a good meal, and after Jerry's passing in 2014, she loved visiting with friends, and hearing all the news about her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by both parents, her sisters Barbara and Patricia, her brother Stephen, and Gerald A. Clay, her husband of 49 years. She leaves her two children, Stephen of Marblehead and his wife Kristen, and her daughter Patricia Charest and her husband Kirk, as well as her grandsons Timothy and Ryan.
The family would like to thank First Light, Care Dimensions, and the Kaplan Family Hospice House for their loving care for Nancy.
