Margaret Bowen DeCamp “Maggie”, a devoted wife, adoring mother and grandmother, loving sibling and generous friend, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 following a fight with cancer. She was 73 years young. Born in 1944, Margaret grew up in Marblehead and lived in Swampscott while raising her children, John & Liz DeCamp of Nahant and Nancy & Neil Gillis of Beverly with her husband, Jack.
During her years in Swampscott, Margaret taught at multiple levels in the Swampscott School System, volunteered and formed many friendships that would last her lifetime. Jack and Margaret moved to Maine for 15 years, staying active with outdoor activities such as skiing, boating and golf. When she and Jack retired, they returned to the north shore in Salem to be close to friends and family and especially their grandkids, Collin & Kaylee Gillis and Casey DeCamp.
Due to the sudden nature of Mom’s passing, we are heartbroken and have foregone hosting a wake. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead on Monday, June 12 at 11AM. There will be a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a worthy charity of your choice. There are a lot of worthy causes, including the fight against cancer. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
